Time and date update

My time and date doesn't update unless I'm passed from one tower to the
next it seems.  I have an MDA and when I remove the battery or do a
reinstall of the OS it reverts back to Jun 7, 06 and it doesn't change
until I change it manually or I'm traveling and get passed to a
different tower (at least I assume that's what's happening).  Any clues
on this issue?

P.S.
I have auto update time zone selected and automatic service provider also.

It might be helpful to know which phone you have. They are not all the
same.

I have an MDA.  That is a HTC Wizard.

Are you using an "unofficial" WM6 ROM by any chance?  I upgraded my MDA
to one of the hacked WM6 ROMs floating around and my time update no
longer works either.

The problem with these unofficial upgrades is that the WM6 components
have been taken from ROMs designed for other phones- NOT the Wizard/MDA,
and tgrafted onto the device drivers and components of a Wizard WM5 ROM
to create "FrankenROMs" that work 90+% but never 100% it seems.)

The auto-time update function hasn't worked in the 3 WM6 ROMs I've tried.
I assume the auto-time zone function in the hacked ROMs just aren't
compatible with the MDA.

Such is life, but the added functionality of these ROMs is worth the few
quirks, particularly since the MDA will not be getting an official upgrade.

Hey Todd. I was thinking of flashing my TMO SDA with the imate ROM. Do
know which site has the best instructions for this?

Hands down, the best is xda-developers.com.

I am using the ROM from T-Mobile.  It only updates the time when I
travel.  If I remove the battery from my phone and replace it and turn
the phone on while home, it won't update until I get halfway to work.
Work is 90mi away so somewhere in there it updates.  If I don't go
anywhere it won't update.  If I stay in the area, even though I know I
have to be switching towers, it doesn't update.

My guess is, for whatever reason, none of the towers near you broadcast
the time.  I know when I lived in Kansas City several years ago, the KC
market didn't have time/date update, but other T-Mo markets did.  (KC
eventually got it, but long after other cities had already.)

Same here in Tucson. No time and date update. When I would travel the time
would change. Now it works here too.

It doesnt auto update when you switch off and switch on again after enabling
auto update of time zone?
As far as I remeber 3GPP specification handset should "read" time
information during Location update procedure and in your case it seems like
it does while you change BTS (tower) so power cycle should be helpful also.
