Got me t-mobile communication centre package today (£9.99 for the card,
£13.50 a month for the 100Mb gprs contract)

Impressed so far, but i'd like to learn more about this thing.. there's a
connector for a headset on the card.. but no mention of that in the
instructions, is that of any use?? i guess i should plug ina headset, and
try ringing the number of my sim.. but just wondering if anyone knew if it's
of any use.. i'm on a data only tarrif, so i guess it's no use to me
anyway.. but i just like to know what's what.

Anyone know if it's possible to get the connection monitor to display Kb and
meg's used, rather than bytes as it seems to so far.. it's much easier to
look at the monitor and see it say i've used 900K so far.. 12.5 megs and so
on, rather than it showing a 6 or more digit number that i have to fart
about working out what it is in megs.. as that's waht my tarrif is based on.

are there any forums for this card and it's users??  i have many simple Q's
that would prolly bore people on here.. i.e how much does a text cost to
send via gprs.. i pay to recieve them i guess.. in the gprs data minutes and
so on???

I have the Orange Datacard (£0 cost, but £25 per month for 100Mb) and
was faced with a similar problem - Orange said it would let me know
cumulatively how much I'd used through the month - it didn't and so I
had to jot it down each time I connected until...

Someone on this newsgroup recommended an excellent utility (free
trial, then $19.99) which I now have on my laptop and tells me exactly
how many Mb I've used - Website is www.dumeter.com - I paid by
American Express Traveller's Cheque but you can of course pay by
Credit Card if you wish.

As for texts, I haven't received any - I've sent a test one and was
charged 10p for that.

Gazz

Where did you get it from ?  Previous best price that I have seen is
£49.99 for the card (Scancom) and £13.50 per month line rental.

Is the card just a GPRS card or is a multi-purpose (Wi-Fi etc) like
the Nokia's ?

Cheers

Escuse my ignorance but does this mean you can connect a laptop to the internet ?

if so ..

How much is the bit (hardware) which speaks to the internet ?

How do you get a sim card

Thanks,
Jenny

You subscribe to a service plan and get a SIM/Data Card with it, just like
your normal mobile. T-Mobile call theirs the "communication centre",
Vodafone the "mobile connect" and so on...
