Anyone know if they do any checks on the software to see what the IMEI
is of the phone they have in for repair?

I would imagine they would. IMEI's are typically used as serial numbers
in the GSM world, and some service centres want to see a receipt with the
IMEI when you hand it in for warranty service.

Of course, it's how they keep track of repair jobs. Got something to
hide concerning your IMEI number? Seems like a strange question.

Of course we do (there are certain regs. we have to follow)!!
Not that I'm pre-judging you, but people who ask these kind of questions
usually have something to hide.

Well, now that is a pity! I was rather hoping that you'd spell out
your personal moral code and your basic policing instincts.....as if
the original poster gives a hoot.

Well, I see so much attempted "dodgyness" in the average day at work that I
have a knack for spotting who's genuine and who's trying to pull a fast one
of some sort.
This one was easy to spot - don't you think James?
