Hi,

Just checked my O2 bill for this month and there is a charge for £1.277 ex.
VAT for a premium text message received from 84004 at 03:37 am on 22 June.

I had no idea what this could be so had a search around on Google and found
this website that talks about it:

<http://www.grumbletext.co.uk/vt.php?p=5485&subj=lix+2407+1619+complaints++S
MS+Spam+(General)+complaint>

I do remember receiving some text about euro 2004 but I definately didn't
reply to it are request it...

I've emailed O2, hopefully they'll sort it out..

One of the most useful things on T Mobiles online billing,
is the user option to bar reverse premium rate text.

OFCOM should make all the networks offer it.

Of course they should be default barred
Opt in, not opt out.

I would turn it off, but often I do actually find then useful - for
voting on TV and stuff. Eventually i can see them being used to buy
good, so your phone becomes a credit card!

Voting on TV, etc. does not involve reverse premium rate text though - you
actually send the text to a premium rate number so you know that you won't
be charged at the standard rate.  In my case, I didn't do anything to
initiate the text message - it was sent to me and I was billed for receiving
it.

hello,

Well that is something you should take legal action against O2 for - if
they're going to do a reverse charge on text or even calls they are in
breach of contract.  How many o2 customers would risk having a phone that
anyone could send hundreds of messages to and receive an income thanks to
O2.
A fraud by the phone companies more than anything, since when did a customer
pay to receive a call or text in the UK.  Show me where it states that in
ANY contract.
Sue o2.

<snip top post>

You'd better take legal action against Orange, Voda as well as O2.
AFAIK none of them offer reversed charge text barring.

I know this scam is common, and for short code sellers to say a sms will
cost 25p?? wotever to sent to it, but, how can they??

my contract for billing is with my operator, orange, and part of that is
sending of sms, at oranges price of 10p a go(ed50) . can I not take this con
up with them and refute it as I see it as theft. Due to the fact orange is
selling sms for 10p.
