Assuming he has the correct type of handset then it doesn't matter as
any available network will cost the same to use.  Vodafone show very
good coverage across most of FL.

Coverage maps by network are available here:-
http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_us.shtml - although I feel
some of these are a bit out of date, so coverage ought to be better.

But will PAYG work..? I don't think Voda has a PAYG roaming agreement with
the US..? I may be wrong of course, but I know Orange doesn't.

I was unsure - but according to the Vodafone website if you select USA
and "pay as you talk" it does then take you to a page of rates and
services available.  Websites have been known to contain incorrect
infromation of course :-)

True..! Also depending on the calling pattern it may well be cheaper to
buy a local SIM. Roaming charges are bad enough at the best of times but
PAYG from the US is likely to be astronomical..!

None if it's not a triband phone with 1900MHz, best try and get quad band
with 850MHz as well.

I roamed a couple of years ago on 1900MHz with my Orange 6310i,
surprisingly good coverage all the way down the I1 from Orlando to Key West,
and all over the everglades.
Only place I had really bad coverage was Ft Myers.

If he's going to make more than a couple of mins of calls, he's probably
better off buying out there a US T Mobile Sim for around $50,
comes with $30 of calls.
(assuming the GX10 is unlocked?)

It is worth shopping around. Apparently, the standard T mobile sim
needs topping up regularly. There are a few companies that do sims
that only need topping up once a year.
