Which UK operators allow PAYG/PAYT subscribers to make
out-of-the-country roaming calls without any special actions (such as
tying the account to be auto-debited through a bank/credit card?)

All except Fresh:
"Can I use my phone abroad?
Yes - please call customer services on 0845 655 5000 to set up. A credit
check and payment by direct debit is needed for using your phone abroad."

Virgin Mobile limit the number of countries you may roam in, until you
register with them for direct debit payments.

It's not so much Virgin limit the number of countries you can roam in,
but two completely different forms of roaming, I'm sure the huge profits
they make from PAYT roaming they'd love you to be able to PAYT roam everywhere

Full roaming on Virgin with DD added is the only practical way to roam

All PAYT roaming is an expensive toy

Well Joseph, why don't you look at each operators website to see if they
support PAYG roaming without a DD. Everyone has tried to help you and give
you guidance, but all you can do is to say "I think isn't very reassuring".

THe only operators that need a DD are Fresh and Virgin. Orange, T-Mobile,
Vodaphone and O2, i.e. all the main operators) are OK.

Joe is a troll. You will never satisfy him.

Virgin only requires DD to roam in countries not available on PAYG:

That last statement needs some qualification; in the first place, PAYG
roaming isn't as extensive as on contract. For example, Orange don't have
roaming agreements with any of the US carriers for PAYG but they do on
contract. So your PAYG phone may not work in places where a contract phone
on the same network would. It is also usually more expensive where it is
available.

Personally, I wouldn't roam on PAYG, I'd go for a local SIM card, it
usually works out cheaper, well it does for me anyway.

But the OP asked what operator allowed PAYG roaming without using a direct
debit. He wasn't asking about any country in particular. His statement to
pocket.me.uk saying "I think isn't very reassuring" was slightly rude. If he
had any reservations, he could always use each operators website and look
for himself.

I would but my past experience it has not been easy to find such
information without much study of each website.  I came here to u.t.m.
with the hope that I could get quick and dirty information on which
did.  Evidently from what has been written all the main operators with
the exception of Fresh and VM don't require direct debit.

Another question I do have though is do all the UK operators that do
offer international roaming with PAYT/PAYG do any of them use CAMEL
outside of Europe or do they all roam with callback schemes outside of
Europe?

Perhaps I've misunderstood something here, but I've made calls on
PAYG/PAYT SIMs when on the Continent without any such arrangement.
My understanding has been that when your call credit expires you won't
be able to make any more calls.
