I have just taken delivery of this handset and it appears to be using
firmware ver 03.17.

Can someone tell me what difference if any this makes to the functionality
of the handset?

I am a complete numpty regarding how these phones work but I just want to
make sure that I have the best working handset.

The latest version is 4.43, but that was only released on 24th August
so isn't available at a lot of places yet. 4.28 has been shipping
since July, 3.17 was the version before that.
