I finally got around to calling Orange and threatening to join Three
on their 750minutes contract.  I am out of contract and had been
stalling on doing this for some strange reason.

Orange then offered me the same contract if I stay with them and asked
me if there was any phone I was interested in.  I told them I was
interested in the 6230.  They said I could have it free.

I told them that there were no text messages in here, and Orange said
they would give me 60 texts each month for three months.  I paused -
not impressed and Orange said they could throw in another 30 each
month.  I told Orange that I had seen deals where they were offering
200 texts free for the first 6 months.  They then said not on the
Three Contract, but he would up the 30 free texts to 60 texts for the
first three months and another 60 on top of that.

I then asked Orange if the phone came with a Bluetooth Headset.  They
told me no - they only deal with the phone.  I ummed and aahhhed.
Orange then told me they would give me £50 credit.

My 6230 phone is being delivered in 2-3 working days.

Just thought I'd share the process with others out there.

Churn is up again at Orange, you should have asked for a night
with the CEO's secretary to be included.

as a matter of interest, what monthly spend have you had to attract such a
good deal from Orange - it would be interesting to know the spend level at
which you can really get them to dig deep for a deal.  Is a monthly spend
like £40 enough (like mine?)

Or £0.90 P/M for both mine and my wifes phone on Orange OVP ?

If it's over £1 per month I moan  :-)

I have O2's PUFFL contract, so I actually make a profit each year by selling
the upgrades!
The upgrades are worth more than my annual spend.

If I have to pay more than one penny per month I moan :)

Last Xmas's Carphonewarehouse cashbackdeals also mean I made a profit of £10
for the whole year,

So I get paid about £30 a year to use O2 and Orange's services :)

So I am actually not actually keen on having 'cheaper' PAYG services.

Services where you pay up front for life and can start making a profit after
2 years, and cashback deals which are worth more than the annual spend are
better!

But sadly I don't think these will happen very often for some strange
reason.

Yep!  Okay.  I was on an offpeak 800/200 (x-network 200) at £25.  200
texts, Orange World (WAP? at £4).  Oh - and 60 minutes of peak calls
free.

But my monthly spend was always in excess of £50 per month.  Probably
should have stuck out for more!

Possibly me too, but finally got round to ringing them today and got
6230, 200 xnet, 500 text and £50 credit for £30 a month.

The £50 credit took a fair bit of persuasion though, but it was painless
enough.

In terms of minutes and texts, it will hopefully stop my bills going WAY
over the basic price each month.

When my wifes O contact came up for renewel in April she was on a 200 mins a
month contract and she paid for her texts individually and via a bundle. Her
bill was around £45 a month. She rang for her PAC code and came away with
another 200 min contract, 200 texts per month and a free phone that she
actually liked and wanted.

I think the upgrade deals are out there as long as you are prepared to
haggle...

Richard,

Thanks for that - I am just about to phone Orange with a view to pretty
much having the same requirements as you described.

If I may ask, what is your monthly spend? I just wonder whether mine is
enough to get as much as that offered to me. (I'm on a YourPlan120 £25
thing, but my bills have been around the £60 the last few months and I
*need* to change!

Cheers
