What should I look out for? My girlfriend recentley got an unwanted phone as
an upgrade but she took it anyway as it was offered to her as she thought
she could make a bit of cash on it. The new sim has been registered with
Orange but she's thinking of flogging the handset on ebay as it's never been
used.
Do you have to inform the network that you are doing this due to ways in
which the phone will be abused and the IMEI number could be traced back to
you?
Any other tips?
Thanks

Pull the SIM out and let it rip. Just that simple. Only issue is if it the
phone is locked to ORANGE or not. That needs to be said in the listing, or
you could have a transaction nitemare.

Also, state in your auction "this auction is available to UK buyers only"
OR
"I will NOT sell to Nigeria, any other buyers welcome!"
Nigerians will bid on your auctions for more than they're worth, send you a
cheque for too much money, and request that you refund the difference,
meaning when their cheque bounces even tho it appears not to have after the
4/5 working days then you're out of pocket.
Otherwise, mention as much stuff as possible about the phone, sell it!

You can set the preference on the auction not to allow bidders from
Nigeria (or indeed any other country)

And indonesia who have a good system of stealing a credit card, paying
through paypal, recieving the phone then paypal talke the money back off you
when its reported stolen.
Similarly they pay with a legit card, recieve the phone and say they don't
want it, yu must give the refund, they rsend you an empty box properly
tracked through a respectable shipping firm. Game over!
In fact, just don't accept paypal!

Why must you give a refund if they don't want the phone?
Also, what's the alternative to PayPal - cheques can apparently bounce many
days/months after the apparent success.

use an escrow service like this one www.auctionpix.co.uk/escrow.html
If I am after an high value item and they won't use escrow I don't buy
- simple
I have just sold a Nokia 6600 to a lady in Jersey and we are using
them. I suggested it so she knows exactly what shes getting or she
gets her money back - simple
