so they say the only G3 phone worth getting is the 6630 as Symbian
programs can un fence the phone by bypassing the built in software.
Bit of a warning to the G3 companies only 4% of phone users said they
would try it.
Ringfencing was the main problem.

Yes it seems pointless. Why have the technology, when it's throttled so you
can't really use it.............................

it's designed to sell into the UK market where we're used to that sort of thing :-(

It's only because the majority are inexperienced/ignorant etc. so as a
company why not exploit that?
It could work the other way too - e.g. Tesco free GPRS, get full HTTP
using Opera etc.

What the hell does un-fence mean?

Which is the problem, no matter what you install on a Huchinson 3
phone you cannot get the web, just the 3 service as usual for the
gadget show a flashy puff peice with little technical backup in it.

It was a Vodafone 6630 he used and a visit to a few symbian web sites
but as you say there was no information on what he bought or used to
do his report.
I felt it was to brief to be of any real use.

It may have been a vodaphone phone, but he did say to make it work as
it should just get the 6630, install opera and it works, No mention of
what network (and let's face it Orange got the biggest plug in the
pieve

Almost as bad as the how to create a web site bit. It's simple easy
and cheap they say, Just use dreamweaver and Photoshop to make your
web site.
They neglected to say that the two packages cost around a grand for
the pair if you have nothing to upgrade from and £300 or so if you do.
Why not just show a free or share ware package.
As I say like all gadget show pieces a pretty puff piece with no real
technical content. it's pretty but they are are pandering to the main
market not phepole who have the slightest inclination what they are
talking about.

They think that Symbian is Open Source and that the 6630 is the only Symbian
phone available. Hurrah for The Gadget Show and their accuracy.

As 3G services already have 5% of the UK market by customer volume, and much
more than that in spending, I would suggest that that survey finding is
complete bunk.
