If you check the eBay auctions you'll see lots of T-Mo to go (T-Mobile
prepaid.)  Some are very good deals and much less than the standard
price which is USD50 and includes USD30 worth of calling.  Some have a
year's expiry while others only have a 90 day expiry by which time you
have to add more funds to the account to keep it alive.  Right now an
auction is about to end and the 'buy it now' price is $15 for an
already activated account.  Another is for $18 with 60 minutes
included.  There are four pages of eBay auctions for T-Mobile prepaid
accounts.  You should be able to find something.  Many of them are
already activated so you could have a working number even before you
leave for the US.
