I blagged a new K750 today. I had a K700 with accidental damage
insurance which I have accidentally dropped into my wheelchair
workings twice and broken the screen. First time (for my £25 excess)
the insurance paid for the repair, the second time they sent me a
voucher for a new K700.
Went to The Link and asked for my new K700: they can't get hold of
them any more. Neither can they get hold of S700s. Phoned the
insurance company: they told me in the circumstances I would have to
accept a Nokia. No way!
So after a bit of discussion between The Link and my insurer, the
insurer agreed to replace my K700 with a - wait for it - K750i for
free!!! They aren't even available on Orange contract in the Link yet
so they are going to send it on next week.
What a blag eh!
Thing is I'd unlocked and unbranded my K700i. I'd just bought 2
davinci credits to do the same for my new K700i - but now I'm getting
a K750i and DaVinci doesn't mention this yet, or have the firmware
files. Anybody any idea if I will be able to unlock and unbrand my
K750i with Davinci? and if so when?
Thanks

aren't insurance jobs usually sim-free handsets so the retailer can get
the most possible?

in my case the insurer Mastercare (and the retailer The Link, both
owned by the Dixon group) insisted in replacing with an Orange branded
handset. Orange charge over the odds for their branded handsets unless
they are sold as part of a contract / PAYG deal: the voucher was for
£299.99 for a new K700i (using the same SIM) and they wanted £499.99
for the K750 - which Mastercare (eventually) agreed to!

yeah, I had two phones during my 5 year insurance with them,
both bought as my choice in store using a voucher, sim free unlocked
handsets.

The bottom connector on the K750i (and all new future sonyericsson
phones) is different, so even if the server does support it (doubtful)
you will need new cables.
There's hardly any branding on it anyway so I wouldn't worry.

Good point though I notice from the instruction manual I downloaded
they will (eventually) run the Sony Ericsson Update Service using the
USB cable supplied with the phone, so perhaps eventually DaVinci will
support that.

Good news
Thanks

Which network are you referring to as surely each network will have their
own level of branding?

Can you be more specific as to what Orange have done to it. Bad memories of my
butchered K700 are still too fresh.

Virtually nothing. Right-softkey is un-molested, I can't think of
anything out of the ordinary, the odd link to Orange world here and
there but nothing to impair functionality.

And a few Orange-ified icons, but nothing too garish from what I hear.
Not seen one in the flesh yet.
