GPRS on PAYG?

Can anyone recommend a PAYG provider that doesn't limit ports on GPRS?

I've read that some PAYGs limit GPRS to browsing only - I need to be
able to make VPN connections over it if possible.

Can anyone offer any advice, or have I got my facts wrong?

TIA.

Oops. I should have searched more - just found a lot of extra info from
this group's archives.

Seems to be the case that only O2 block certain ports. Orange, Voda and
T-Mobile do not. Is this info up to date?

I don't use the phone much, for either voice or data, but need to be
able to VPN in to work occasionally.

Thanks,

John

Orange didn't about a month ago. Though it's just a massive NAT network
so check the VPN software is compatible with that.

Thanks. NAT is not a problem, either.

Virgin block ports big time - in fact anything other than browsing is an
official no no. There is a workaround but only for pop3 which involves using
the ip address of the pop server rather than the name. Instant Messenger and
anything else is out of the question.

T-Mobile GPRS costs are extortionate.

The only sensible, price wise, option for PAYG (or for that matter for
contract) is Orange.

Not sure if you still do but you used to have to activate VPN access with
customer services and use a different APN.

I use a VPN client/server thing on my work laptop, and sometimes use an
ordinary orange contract phone to connect. No Special APN required.

Pleased to say that with VODA PAYG GPRS, everything works so far.

Not necessarily so when roaming abroad though!
