'Downgrading' from Orange contract to PAYG?

Hi,
I keep seeing people upgrading from PAYG to contract - I want to do the
opposite.
I've had an Orange Everyday50 contract for about 5 years, hardly ever
make phone calls, (less than one a day, on average) and want to go to
PAYG as it will save me money. How do I go about this, and also keep my
number?

Thanks in advance

Ring 150, go through the options for 'to leave Orange' and there will
be an option in there somewhere for 'if you are interested in our PAYG
service', etc. Just tell the operator that you want to cancel your
contract and move onto PAYG and they will put in your 30 days notice,
and about 10 days from the disconnection date, you get sent a PAYG SIM
pack, which you can register by calling Orange and they will transfer
your existing phone number onto it.

Great. I'm glad it's that simple - I was afraid it was going to be
deliberately difficult.
Thanks

T-Mobile don't allow that! Suppose you get what you pay for.

They used to - in fact it was easier. You just call up and ask to
cancel, and they tell you to go and buy a T-Mobile top-up card and ring
back with the voucher number. Once you call back, they re-provision
your SIM onto PAYG and set you up.

Surprised they don't offer it anymore?

I was very annoyed because I changed my PAYG account to a contract for
two years, then then at the end I wanted to go back to PAYG and keep
that number.

That's odd. Just last month I went to cancel 4 T-mobile accounts and
each time they offered a PAYG option (after MixIt or U-Fix or whatever
other rubbish they offer).

Would you have kept the same number? Thats all I wanted... so I could
pickup calls to my old number (I'd had for years) and get a new contract.

They never used to allow it, so you're lucky :)

Call 150 and ask to terminate your contract, and request a free SIM card
in the same call.

Well, he did say it in less than 1/4 as many words - 18 as opposed to 85 :)

That's a hell of a waste, why not put the ED50 on ebay?

It's one of the few off-peak tariffs that incs 0845 / 0870 in inc mins
making it ideal for international calls through 0870 callthroughs
50 mins a day, and then 1p per min after that, for international calls
from a mobile phone has to interest some

It used to be. A year or two back I'd have paid him for the contract.
Now days with the numpty that Orange has become, the ED50 contract is
far less valuable.

Granted it has some plus points (call through numbers etc..), but lots
of the folk who were on Orange for the benefits other networks didn't
have, now find that Orange have removed those advantages and the
customers have voted with their feet.

Cue Jon.

Just my opinion FWIW.

Did this by going to Tesco -  designated the 3 numbers I often use for
1/2 price - a Win...
Orange said that after Planahead I had to go PAYG or expensive contract
- no other option. I left
Funnily enough I had an "offer" from them shortly afterwarsd (too late
and too expensive).

Orange account management and records has been frankly appalling. I
would need a strong reason to consider them again - one which avoids
any potential cockups.
