v600i message alert volume

Just got a v600i and the message alert volume appears to be practically
non-existent! Ring tone volume doesn't appear to have any effect on
message alert - is there any other way of making them audible?

Is that on preview or when you receive a text, on mine when on preview
even though the volume is set to max you can still increase it using the
volume keys on the top rhs.

Yes, just discovered that. It doesn't seem to affect the volume when you
receive a text, though, which is still very quiet :(
