I seem to remember you used to be able to get Mercury phonecards and they had different pictures of them (usually wildlife etc) and you just used to use them in the Mercury phone boxes. They were much better value than the BT ones and lasted a lot longer. I always wondered what happened to Mercury. I thought they may have gone bust. Or, the second theory I had for some reason was that they changed their name to One2One, and subsequently became T-Mobile? Maybe I'm way off on that? I'm sure they did mobile phones for a short while as well though when they first came in. This is bringing back memories. I used to go traipsing to the Mercury phone box quite a lot to get some privacy when I was phoning girls back in high school. ;) It was no fun in the middle of winter. John > Mercury? They offered a service on the prefix 132 which was cheaper then BT, but expensive compared to others. This is going back a number of years (about nine years!) , but they were the first to offer unlimited dialup - they had a 50p unlimited length call offer only on Saturday, which combined with geographic dial up meant 24 hours of downloading. Back then I think the cheapest rate was 1p/min so that had a £14 value alone. The good old days. I ordered on 22/10 and received the paperwork on 25/10 signed and sent it back same day and got the simcard on 27/10. The paperwork was not at all time consuming - a direct debit mandate and confirmation of what was ordered on the site. 5 mins on this end. Sure you will need a phone with a timer to keep tracking of the 200 mins. I'm only using it for calls, nothing fancy. No it's T-Mobile this time. The sim isn't active yet but should be by around 12pm today. The airtime & simcard is actually provided by a company called Keytel. Mercury seemed to have fulfilled their part of the bargain (supplying the sim, contract) very promptly. Of course the billing will be monitored very closely on my end and I don't intend on going over the 200mins/month. If I do, the charges are 26p/min, which isn't too bad (often upfront contracts have 40p+ min rates if you go over your allowance) I had a Mercury sim before (last time with ECL Telecom), and again, I had no problems. Mercury had a problem with ECL and I believe this is what the posting on MSE forum relate to (they have since been deleted). I would like to point out there is no connection between Unimobiles, Keytel, ECL or Mercury, I am just a happy customer.
