I've got a Sony Ericsson K750i, and the joystick's acting up. The phones an
insurance replacement for my old K750i, which I lost. This one, and the old
one, both had the joysticks die very quickly, and now the camera shutter
button's packing up on this phone.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get Vodafone to swap me to another
handset so that I'm not having to get it repaired every 3 or 4 months, or of
a decent case that stops dust getting into the joystick and wearing it?

Very tempted to buy a cheap digital camera and a second hand 6510...

You are being too rough with it, plain and simple. You could dismantle it
and clean the joystick, or at worst replace the joystick, it's extremely
simple.

But it's a known problem, mainly with the male owners it would seem...

I think you mean that the joystick's poorly made, plain and simple. You
shouldn't need to dismantle the phone and clean / replace parts every 3
months. Everyone I know with a K750i and other SE joystick phones has
this problem.

Anyway, the question I asked was along the lines of "Is it possible to
swap it for another phone"...

I'd agree so far.

Everyone? Challenge ... OK, so you don't know me but mine's been fine
for over 6 months now. I do keep mine in a case though. Since its own
case is plastic (m'T39m was metal) I thought this might help protect it
from being dropped or having things dropped on it. Since I had an
18-month contract, I figured I'd better look after it!

No idea, sorry.

Like you said, I don't know you... Both my K750is, two friends K750is,
a mate's 3G Sony with a joystick and another mates old T610 (not 100%
on that model number) all have joystick problems. There's also a stupid
amount of dust behind the screen on my and my friend's K750is. I'm on
an 18 month contract too, and the phone's been subjected to nothing
worse than the inside of my pocket...

Try the vacuum cleaner on full on the joystick part, worked for me. Appears
the joystick part just gets clogged up with dirt,

Agreed, taking it apart and using a toothbrush or those electric-shaver
brushes also does the trick, more so I would say. I would do the brush trick
then use a hoover on it once it's reassembled.
