When overseas I either use a  dialup 0845 number to access the
internet/emails via my mobile (for use with my laptop) or GSP. I always use
GSP if possible but like to have dialup available as a backup if necessary.
Having just been
stung by a huge bill (South Africa) I  am investigating buying a local SIM
card. i have been
told that these SIM cards (by customer support  for www.0044.co.uk ) will
not carry data and therefore are no use
accessing emails. Do you know if this is correct?
Has anyone used one of these SIM cards whilst overseas and did they save you
a lot of money?  Main countries I use are Poland, Italy & Germany (and
probably horrendously expensive South Africa)

I used an MTN sim card in SA last summer. Buy one at the airport. Cheap as
chips and so too is GPRS data on them (R2.00 per Megabyte!!!).
