Old phone displaying IMSI failure

Dug out my old two old Diga's(currently residing in car gloveboxes) to take
to O2 shop.
One works though screen is unreadable, the other displays "IMSI Failure
Switch off"
Has it died or can it be woken up ?   Just to check balance really.

IMSI fail = you've been cut off (probably for inactivity).
