Nokia 6310i -SIM registration Failed/Insert SIM Messages

Morning all

I have owned a Nokia 6310i for a number of years and am very happy with
the phone. In fact is probably the best mobile phone I have owned in 10
years and I have no desire to replace it.

The current model is probably about 3 years old and it has until
recently been a model of reliability despite the occasional bump.

However, typically when I have the phone in my pocket it is showing on
the screen various messages - typically "Insert Sim Card" or "Sim
Registration failed". Sometimes it is possible to resolve this by
"playing" with the keys or waggling the battery (without removing it).
Other times it is necessary to turn the phone off and on.

I have tried cleaning the Sim contacts (not to sure how well!) and I
suspect that the problem is a physical one involving the sim card rather
than the phone itself.

Has anyone come across this problem or a solution?

Cheers

Alan

By the way I have NOTupdated the firmware recently etc

Cut out a small bit of paper and position (/shove) it behind the sim
card within the phone.  It stops the sim card moving around which has
lead to the "insert sim card" messages for me in the past.  Modern
Nokias are more accurately designed in the sim card placement
department, but then the battery life has evaporated instead!
