Swapping A<>B isn't an officially supported process. However, you may
get through to someone who knows what they're doing and will do it for
you (And only apply charges of £10 or £20 or so, depending on how
they're feeling).. This is unlikely nowadays.

A way of definitely achieving what you want (and not confusing the poor
operator, who has chance to be Indian and won't take much confusing)
would be to do it in a few steps and on different calls.. Wait for your
SIM updates in between and for the changes to properly take effect:

Call 1 - Request number A changed to a new one.
Call 2 - Request number B changed to now quarantined number A.
Call 3 - Request new number from step one be changed back to
        now quarantined number B.

So three separate number change charges there. The two numbers *must* be
on the same account. A removed number will be quarantined against an
account for 6 months; number changing across accounts isn't possible
even if they have the same name, billing address and all the rest of it.

If I go with the three step approach is the fee greater?

Yes, three separate charges involved there. Can't remember what a single
charge is now, around 10 quid I think.

This method is what a knowledgeable rep should use to do what you wanted
anyway, but as I said it's not an officially recognised process.

If you get someone that knows what they're doing, and who appreciates
what you're trying to do, they may class the whole procedure as just a
single number change (if they're nice!). Or two number changes (because
the net result is two numbers have changed).

It'd be to their discretion what charges they applied, but a jobsworth
will apply three separate charges. If you get through to someone who's
working their 90 days notice in the soon-to-close Peterlee, you may get
lucky! Some of them will no doubt be carefree with the company's money
these next few weeks! ;-)

This is all assuming you get through to someone who knows it's possible
and what to do. If you get through to a doughnut, do the three steps
thing in three separate calls.

How is it tight?  It's not like I'm not prepared to pay its just I know
how badly Orange suck and with the three call approach figured they
might charge £10 a time! :-)
