Hi all,

My XDAIIi arrived today, and it is locked to o2.  I popped out to a phone
store and bought an o2 pay and go sim card.  Got home, put it in, but the
signal indicator just has an ! next to it.  I can't get credit onto it
either.  Does the sim card have to be registered on o2 first before I can
make calls?  Is it one of those "wait 24 hours before your sim is
registered" kind of things?  I have seen plenty of people that have XDAII's
on Pay as you go sims, and what confused me more is that it's an o2 sim!

Thanks,

Neil

The O2 sims I have used all worked without the need to be registered.

I have orange and 02 sims both on contract and pay as you go and both pay as
you go sims. i had to call up and register my details on Orange but my 02
sim did register a signal but i coulntt make or recieve calls so i had to
call 02 and register.  Both sims bought direct from operators.

I havent heard of any1 just buying a sim card and popping it into their
phone and worked straight away.

I dont think you can.

Ah.  This morning because I needed a phone, I unlocked  my XDA so I could
use my old Virgin simcard.  The Virgin simcard works OK, but now the phone
has been unlocked, will my o2 PayG simcard still work once registered?

Thanks

You have now.

Wrong. Only Orange in the UK require registration. Other networks may
offer certain benefits if you register, but only Orange actually *require*
it before the SIM will work.

Damn, I'm confused now.  As I said earlier, I have it unlocked now.  What I
guess I now want to know is, will the o2 sim still work now my phone is
unlocked?  My sister has an o2 phone so I can put the sim in hers to see if
anything happens, but I would have thought it should have been plug and
play?

I tested the SIM in my Sister's phone, and it came up with "Unregistered
Sim". I then put in an unused SIM that she got as part of a promotional
freebie type thing and it registered in under a minute! I'm going to take
back the SIM that will not register, but before I do, is there anything else
I can try?
