Copying SMSs to new Handset

Hey guys :)

Well I'm expecting my Sony Ericsson K800i to arrive today, having been using
a K750i in the past.  I was wondering about how to copy some of my old SMSs
to the new handset (some for sentimental reasons, some for practical - ie.
booking info etc) and then I remembered something from long, long ago -
FloAt's Mobile Agent.

Copying over my contacts etc will be something I need to do too.

Am I right in thinking this gem will let me do both?  So far, I've uploaded
all my SMSs and contacts into the PC itself.  With the SMSs, if I select one
and right-click, there is an option to "Move to Phone(Upload)" which is
greyed out when my PC is paired with my K750i.. hoping this will become
available on the new one?  If it's possible to have two phones recognised by
the software (though not necessarily paired at the same time).

It also doesn't seem obvious how to copy contacts over... I mean, obviously
there's the sync option, but 'sync' often means making both the same one way
or the other so paranoid of wiping what's in the PC (because the new phone
will have no contacts)... though I guess that's less a big deal as I can
send contact cards over via Bluetooth.

You could just say 'try it all and see!' but I'm a bit worried about losing
things so seeking reassurance :)

Top handset mate ;o)

Still around - yes

Contacts easy - like you say, just BT across

Or, like you say, can sync with PC. What I do is send contavcts to PC, save
as a WAB file, then use Outlook Express to send back and forth to phone (do
not use Outlook as email contacts I keep separate) - but I see what you
mean, I lost mine doing a sync once :o(

Yes, possible to have two

As above

I'd BT from 750-800 then "play" with syncing on 750 and PC - get it right,
then do same with 800 for the future. That way can only fcuk up the old
contacts, which are not important.

So I ordered it on Thursday and it's Monday now and they've only just
discovered the memory card I ordered is out of stock.  So they held back the
hold thing.  :( Why?  There's even a recorded message that says "memory
cards are sent separately"

/cry

And, because I waiting till 3pm to call, I won't get it till Wednesday now.
I wonder if I'll be billed for these days :(

try and find out where the data files on your PC are stored for this
program, just make a backup copy of them in case things do go wrong.

<snip>

Ok so The K800 is here, and I have all my SMSs stored on my PC from the
k750.

Except.  Now what.  There's an option - "Move to Phone - Upload" or similar,
but it is greyed out.  I can't for the live of me figure out how to get
*any* info from the PC to the phone itself :(  Even my contacts aren't
copying across..

Update!

If you copy SMSs to Archive first, and then go into the archive, this option
is no longer greyed out so they are uploaded to the phone!

Happy days!
