Just got this thing. Loaded the software up but am unable to transfer
files via USB. I spoke to SE help people who say it is a hardware
problem and so 02 are sending a new phone.

It is very strange but for the last year I had an SE K700 and had
exactly the same problem with it. Both phones are "unseen" by the
computer, even when properly configured and connected.

Is this a generic problem with Sony Ericsson phones? I have loaded the
software onto both of my computers and it is exactly the same on both.
Very strange.

It's not a problem with the phones, it's your PC, or the way in which you
have(/haven't) installed drivers (correctly) - a new phone will be of no
use, trust me.

I was thinking that as well. Never mind, I'll see what happens. It just
seems strange that it does it on both of my machines which are of
different make.

Drivers aren't necessarily installed correctly, I'd get them all on your
desktop, and then install them youself, or via 'windows update' (you're
using Windows XP, I presume?) - it should ask for quite a number of drivers,
but with them all laid out on your Desktop, you can simply refer to
'Desktop' constantly to speed up the process of finding them.

Thanks a lot for this. I found the drivers, and I seem to have them for
every SE phone there is, in a long list, and installed them manually.
Perfect. Why they can't tell you to do this in the instructions I
cannot imagine. Maybe it is a ploy to get you to phone their expensive
help lines.

Where did you find the drivers?..   The disc seems not to hold them
although there are ME and Win98 drivers there.

I did the following after running their disc :-

Open C Drive folders
Click on Program files
"     "    Sony Ericsson
"     "    Mobile 2
"     "    Drivers
"     "    Signed

then there is a long list of what seems to be all their phones. I found
mine in the list, about 15 files, and then right-clicked on each file
in turn. If it said install I did so.

That was all I did.

Best of luck with it

Thanks I'll give that a try.
