This question has always been bugging me....
Mate just sent me one of them SMS jokes (you know the ones....there were 3
guys in a pub etc) and its quite a long txt.
Wanted to forward it to someone, and it says on my N80 that it will send it
in 3 txt's ? but how come when he sent it me its in 1.....
Are nokia's just crap ? cos ive never been able to send long txt's

Nokia's aren't crap but the N80 is.
It's just informing you that it will use up 3 text messages i.e. 10p x 3 =
30p. or 3 of your inclusive text messages. The phone you're sending it to
has to support extended text messages to put all 3 together, the N80
supports extended text messages. Otherwise they'll recieve 3 seperately and
at the top it will say text message 1 of 3... and so on.

You didn't receive it in one go, it was sent in 3 parts, your mobile
notifies you about the first part, then silently compiles all 3 parts
together as they're received.

Actually, it notifies you about the last part :-)

Not true for the Nokias I've had; it just says *some text missing* until the
2nd part arrives, then shows it with the 2nd part, same scenario, until the
3rd part arrives.
Mind the time when some networks took agesssss to send the 2nd or 3rd part?

Could be if the phone has decided that the last part isn't going to
arrive and gives up waiting?

The impatient bunnet that it was, Nokia 3330. With an 'excellent' *cough*
WAP interface. 2 lines of text, woohoo.

it auto splits and joins. it will work for you.
a sms is 160 letters long a long message divides into that.

Far from it! The way it handles long sms's are perfect. You also don't get 2
parts. then the 3rd part about half an hour later! It waits for all the
parts, then show's you the complete message.
The characters remaining and sms's so far used counter, is exactly how it
should be!
I like the fact that you can keep writing and writing!
What is the limit? I think I've got up to 5 sms....

From an old version of GSM 03.40: 'The maximum length of an
uncompressed concatenated short message is 39015 (255 * 153) default
alphabet characters...'.
Doesn't mean your handset will support it, though!

Yep, most phones will seem to concatenate 3 SMS together quite easily,
although I've had the odd one received that is displayed as 2 messages, with
the "cut-off" being about 60% of the way through. I guess this is a 5-long
one being received as 3 and 2.

It was sent to your phone as 3, but the phone joins the three pieces
together without telling you.

Cool ! thanks I never knew how that worked, and never dared to send messages
over the limit in case the 1st part came after the 2nd lol.
Thanks so much once again :-)
