Hi,
I bought a fone off e-bay 6 months ago and it's been black-listed by O2.
They say I'll need proof of purchase to get it unblack-listed.
If I get the phone unblocked so it can work on any network, will this bypass
the blacklist thing so I'll be able to use it?
Cheers

Unlocked and Unblocked (you mean IMEI blacklist I think) are two
different things. You will need to get O2 to remove it from the
Blacklist - just provide them with what they want.

So proof of purchase off e-bay gets a phone unblocked? That would be
an incredible loophole!

Well it would - but the OP told us O2 simply wanted it to unblock the
IMEI blacklist entry. More like they could pass the information to the
Police?

Many thanks to all,
I have just called the guy who I bought it off. He seems quite genuine - he
said that his current mobile was stolen when he was abroad last month and
called to get his account locked. They must have blocked all IMEI numbers
associated with his account.
Cheers,
Steve

A possible happy-ending in sight then Steve; good-luck!

They should do that for the previous owner instead, not the buyer.

A bonus for the person that upgraded via the insurance policy after selling
the phone and reporting it stolen.

I think they would be looking for an actual purchase receipt from a
shop.

No, it won't work on any UK networks.
I'm no expert, but if this happened to me I would contact the seller and
threaten him with the police if he doesn't refund you. Then report him to
the police as the phone is either stolen or he's defrauding his phone
insurance company.
Anyone else know any better?

No. The blacklist is shared across all UK networks and a good deal of
overseas networks aswell.

They should accept a receipt off ebay, but also report the buyer to the
police.
