Just press 'on' 'Lock Keypad' then enter the code. You can still receive calls / texts. But to do anything else, you need to enter the 5 digit code again. Not really sure how secure this is, but I've taken the battery out, refitted, and it still asked for the code! Handy to just quickly lock your phone, and not have anyone looking through your phone!
