I've got a Philips SE 435 DECT phone which will send and receive SMS.
This works fine apart from SMS from a few mobiles which is always
rendered into VoiceText. Anyone know why this might be? Thanks.

Are they from T-Mobile mobiles?

Yes. Does it make a difference?

Methinks it does - AFAIK, T-mobile use their own system for sending the
messages, rather than BT's, which means they're /always/ delivered as voice.

Ahh. Thanks. That would explain it then.
BTW How do I stop this Group
publishing my email address every
time I post?

Erm, munge it in your newsreader settings.

It's customary on usenet to use a munged or invalid address for
posting.  The one above, for example was only used for posting, never
as an email address.  Other people put things like  fred@nowhere.kom
into thier usenet client as the posting address.

Occasionally, though, a usenet server will require a valid posting
address, hence my use of a throw-away account.

It is good nettiquette to put a valid email address in the .sig,
although I rarely bother - I post my email address in disguised form
when I say something that might generate private traffic.

Right. But my ISP (was Wanadoo, now Orange) has simply terminated its
news server. So I am unable to use a usenet client, unless I pay
separately for access to a usenet server. So, the end result of this is
that I am posting from the web. In order to register I had to give
Google a valid email address, which it now publishes every time I post.
Any ideas?

Use a free public news server.

Ahh. This sounds a bit more like it!
I have looked but cannot find one that is working and that
carries uk.telecom.mobile. Do you know of one?
Thanks for your help.

You could try http://www.teranews.com/ . I find them reasonably good most of
the time, though they have the occasional slowdown. There are conditions
e.g. max 50Mb download per day (though can get this lifted if you want to
pay.) Also, they do ask for a $3.95 start-up fee but that is it - nothing
else to pay, ever. I have found them to be worth it so far (using them for
aboyut 6 months).

Cheers, JL

There used to be one run by the University of Berlin, but it's been a
very long while since I've needed to use one so I have no idea if it's
still going.

Still going, and still reliable, but no longer free. Although - 10 Euro
per year seems quite reasonable to me.
