How many contracts

Hi all,

Rwading up on various posts on various phones, it seems that cheap
handsets can be had by signing up to new contracts. I've got two
Orange contracts, but many posters appear to have many more than that.

I have a few questions about multiple contracts-

1. How many contracts do networks allow you to have?
2. Can you pay off all 12 months in advance and walk away with the
handset?
3. If you can pay up front, can you then act as if 12 months are up
and cancel the contract?
4. Do these cancelled paid-off contracts make any impact on credit
checks for more contracts?

Sorry if these are moron questions, but despite having had a mobile
since 1995 I am only just getting into the idea of having new handsets
when they come out as opposed to waiting until upgrade time.

Cheers

Depends on the result of your credit reference check if you are a new
customer, or if you're an existing customer, the payment history of your
account (or seemingly for T-Mobile your monthly spend - if your record is
too low then don't count on them ever wanting your customer again if you
cancel... :)

Yes, but you'll need to pay all outstanding charges - i.e. the 12 months at
whatever your line rental is. You may be subject to clawback if you
disconnect within the clawback clause period as specified by the dealer.

Yes, as above - T-Mobile give 5% off for yearly payment I believe.

I shouldn't imagine so - your account should be fully paid up and hence will
show as a good rating - i.e. two month's on time payment = 00 (however if
you paid across the full 12 month's and paid on time each month then you'd
have 000000000000).

Don't worry, you might end up like me and have 6 Orange contracts and one O2
:)

I have about seven or eight Orange phones, two of them PAYG.

You can walk away with the handset in any case. The contract is a
separate entity.

I think so. Can't see much point, though. Why pay early?

Who can tell?

Ian Bailey reckoned that:
> 1. How many contracts do networks allow you to have?

Depends on your credit status, and what direction the wind is blowing.

Yep.

> 3. If you can pay up front, can you then act as if 12 months are up

Yep.

No. When you are credit searched, only the fact that you have been
searched, and who made the search is recorded. The outcome is not recorded
as it is the remit of the creditor (i.e. the mobile network).
