Hi guys, I'm about to move from Orange due to many small problems that have added up (long story, might include it in a diff post if i need advice on that). I decided to research tariffs as much as poss based on what i need....i need minimum 400mins, 200txts, 200MB, and 3G data. i also use my voicemail a LOT and i call 08xx numbers a LOT (am a consultant on the move, and most clients and businesses seem to have 08xx numbers). I almost settled for a Vario II (TyTn,M3100 etc) Flext 35 with Web n walk plus package £47.50/mth from T-Mobile, thinking that if they give u £xxx credit a month with a list of prices for call charges then its up to me how i use them and at least i'd know thats what i was paying bottom line a month.....nope....turns out even in these packs 08xx are not allowed and r charged per min separately....madness!! As an alternative you could try and get the underlying geographical numbers for your contacts. One sneaky way of doing this is to tell them you'll be overseas on business but you may need to call them while you're away. I stand to be corrected, but I believe 08xx numbers only work if you're dialling from within the UK. Some companies do provide alternative geographical numbers (in very small print) in case you're calling from overseas. However, with effect from December 1st 2005, free 0800 was removed from existing consumer tariffs. I'm probably one of the last Orange customers still to be getting free 0800 on a consumer tariff, as I managed to get Orange to add a 'Freephone (Non-Calling Card) Bundle' on for an extra year. They would not extend this bundle, hence I now have an Orange business contract with free 0800 instead. If you're still getting free 0800, it's a mistake on Orange's part If you're not getting free 0800 (which I suspect) , expect a nasty shock on your next bill, when your 0800 calls are charged at 10p per minute. Sorry about that. I realised as soon as I'd posted that it was 08xx not 0800 that was being discussed. Unlike 0800, AFAIK Orange did *not* change their charging policy on 0845 or 0870 for existing tariffs. If it was me, I'd still make a couple of test calls, then wait until I got the bill (unless of course you know from previous bills). On my Talk 60, I get charged 10p for 0845, 30p for 0870.
