Just to let you all know, we are now trialling a new call-through service on
a UK geographic number - 01442 826823. This new service is intended for
anyone who can call UK landlines for free with a calling package to make
free international calls. The service can be used 24/7. You will be able to
call the same destinations as with our O2 mobile access number 0773 066
6890. Anyone with cross-network inclusive minutes on a mobile contract
should use the O2 number instead of the geographic number, as we expect the
geographic number to be in huge demand!

Just as a reminder, the destinations are as follows:

Argentina
Australia
Austria
Azores
Belgium
Brazil (Rio de Janeiro)
Brazil (Sao Paulo)
Canada
Chile
China
China-mobile
Cyprus
Czech Republic
Denmark
Estonia
France
Germany
Greece
Hong Kong
Hong Kong-mobile
Iceland
Ireland
Israel
Italy
Korea (South)
Luxembourg
Malaysia
Monaco
Netherlands
New Zealand
Norway
Panama City
Peru (Lima)
Poland
Portugal
Puerto Rico
Russia (Moscow)
Russia (St Petersburg)
Singapore
Singapore-mobile
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
Taiwan
Thailand

UK Freephone
UK National
UK Local Rate 0845

Venezuela (Caracas)

Isn't that a pager number charged at something silly a minute?

On an 01xxx number..? I can't see how that could be charged at anything
other than normal rate.

I know one thing, if it allows calls to 0870 numbers it will probably
spend most of its time maxed out..!

So why list NATIONAL calls for the UK all 01 and 02 calls are charged
at the same rate these days Mikael or do you refer to something else
when national is mentioned ? .

Hello,

I use simpler service from Superline to make cheap internatonal calls
from my mobile.

See: http://www.superline.co.uk/mobile.html

How can it be simpler? With Superline you have to pay a a charge as well as
dialling an access number. WIth this service you just dial an access number
and there is no further charge!

Maybe he means 'simpler' in an Orange sort of way?

The 01442 code is in the general area of Hemel Hempstead
(http://www.ukphoneinfo.com/cgi-bin-Phones/nng?GNG=01442&Submit=Submit).

It worked fine for me this morning for a call to Spain.  In fact, the
Spanish phone started to ring as soon as I'd finished dialling - no
delay at all.

You may find different charges apply if calling 01481, 01534, or 01624.

I can confirm that 01442 is a genuine geographic number and it is charged at
geographic number rates by all providers.

It is a good service but although you are supposed to be able to call
0845 numbers you can't just tried .

But it does let you call 0800 numbers handy for mobile users who are
normally charged to call them.

Can you (or anyone else) confirm if this is allowed on the 3 network?
They seem to be real sticklers for not allowing this. Anyone found out
more info?
Thanks very much.
alan99@o2.co.uk - 04 Nov 2006 16:46 GMT
Yes, I tried on '3' and it's come out of my inclusive minutes (you can
also use the O2 number OK on '3')

Not showing all posts is a regular 'feature' of good old MSOE :-(

I see, too popular.

I guess Mikael's thinking along the lines of having several Geo numbers
located around the country so those with inc local rate can use them

If so, one for Brighton (01273)  please Mikael

Who nowadays has this mystical "local rate"? I, and everyone else I
know now pays the same for an inland landline call regardless of
whether the recipient is next door or at the other end of the country.

I didn't know there were any providers left who charge less for local
calls than national ones. Which do you use?

Really?

The BT Business tariffs I know of don't. The tariffs all seem to refer
to "UK National and Local calls"

Ye gods! What a rip-off! Are there really businesses who pay those
rates?

Possibly. But you see my point. Ther *are* other tariffs, and they *do*
differentiate between national and local calls. In practice, they'll be
heavily discounted in most cases, but the discount is unlikely to remove
that differential.

Our home line is on that tariff, but we rarely if ever make calls via
BT.
