I received a text from "Upgrade" last week claiming that I am eligible for
an upgrade and to call 191 or 0870 something.  Last December I had a new
contract for 18 months.  Therefore should my upgrade be 1/2 way through next
year?

I know that you can upgrade 2 months before the end of the contract so if I
had had a 12 month contract then the text would be correct however it is
still applicable for me?

This is the first contract I've ever had (other than business ones) so I'm a
bit unfamiliar.  Can I upgrade???  Surely not if I signed up for 18
months???

Thanks

If it sounds too good to be true...

Ring customer services and check with them.

It's a scam.

I got one too, and I've got a vodafone staff account :)

WHy would someone bother to direct calls to 191? If it was a rogue
dealer surely they would be directing calls into themselves?

No. You were contacted by a dealer pretending to be the network, and
they were trying to scam you.

If you do want to upgrade, do it on your terms, not by responding to
one of those crooks.

If in doubt I'd recommend calling customer services who'll be able to
check exactly where the third party SMS came from and provide you with
their details.

Putting the text message 'word for word' on a forum such as this one is
always a help too. Often other people will get the same text  and will
type it into Google / a search engine looking for more information,
bringing them to a discussion about it. Same with cold call numbers, by
sticking them into Google you're more often directed to a discussion
forum or thread where others will confirm having similar problems.
