Guys, I thought i knew a lot about mobiles - but try solving this one! I just got myself a dual sim card from a company called 'simore'. On this dual sim card there is an option for making an 'IP call', and the card itself has got 3 pre-configured Gateways on it (I cant see what the gateway values are, but apparently i can change them to my own values if i want). Apparently i can route a normal mobile call through these IP gateways and save a bucket of money when making calls from International destinations - thus bypassing the rip off charges we usually get. I've tried calling my landline using the IP call thing on my PAYG orange phone, and it certainly works. My question is, can anyone suggest what is going on ? Are we using a WAP connection and being charged for WAP minutes. Admittedly i could just check my PAYG balance after 2 minutes worth of calls..but i'm thinking if i can use free WAP minutes on another contract to get totally free calls (i know i'm dreaming..) This would certainly be possible, but not as simply as you suggest. If you've used it, you have more chance of seeing what is happening than anyone else. Well, i think some default account details are pre-installed into the dual sim card, although i never requested anything and im not being charged for any such account. Also, the phone is definately not using bluetooth or WIFI - so it seems only WAP/GPRS is the only option. I very much doubt that you could make a VOIP call over GPRS. It won't be WAP - that's a protocol for displaying pages, but it normally runs on top of GPRS and is sometimes charged more cheaply. In my experience, GSM 3G is not fast enough for VOIP, though it is nearly good enough for Skype. To make a voip call you really need a 3G connection, but you don't get unmetered 3G GPRS on Orange PAYG. I suggest you check your balance carefully, because this could end up being very expensive one way or another. A dual sim in nothing like as useful as two phones. It is also inconvenient and unreliable. I would appreciate it if you didn't use anything I write here as an excuse to spam the newsgroup.
