Just got this phone second hand and having real problems-first off,
can't get a data cable anywhere (apart from £30-odd from a site in
Poland !) and as I have no manual am struggling with some of the
potential features. Does anyone know how to use a photo taken with the
camera as the image in a phonebook entry ? Have tried everything and it
is driving me mad !
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can get the data cable from
http://www.flatbatt.co.uk/Data-Cables/data-cables.html

I don't think you can use a photo as a phonebook entry unless you take it
phonebook photo.

The quick start guide is available on the virgin website but not the full
manual. I have the lobster 575 and have tried myself to set a picture to a
phonebook. First you have to st the phone to use phone memory only. Take a
photo as a pbook image by going to option when in camera mode, then scroll
up to set a pbook photo. Take photo and save. Then go to phone phone book
and select number, go to option, then edit, scroll down to highlight the
cartoon face the select. This will open the phonebook album. Scroll to the
picture you want, select ok,then save. I have the manual but is does not
tell you this in it, I found it by accident.

Thanks very much - have changed the settings to use the phone memory
but still unable to find an option to change which folder to save to
(under the options menu when taking a photo). I only seem to have the
brightness options etc running sideways then up and down to change them
-  get the feeling there is a hot key which I am missing. Also the
store on that link no longer sells cables for the 575 - another site
called M-99 used to have them but no longer does as well.

Sussed it ! Knew if I kept pressing buttons randomly it would work
eventually ! Thanks for your help. Now all I need is a cable for less
than 30 quid.....

Would you care to enlighten the rest of us as to which random buttons
you pressed?

Your guide for setting a photo image works a treat, thanks! I have bee
for weeks trying to
work the thing out, believing that this function was not possible.
Data transfer is my next challenge. For ref: M-99 and Flatbatt look t
be the same company or at least share the same post code. Neither, no
advertise a data cable for the 575 although Flatbatt do offer the cabl
for the 485. Does anybody know whether this one is compatible.

If you think about it for a moment, you'll need more than a USB cable:
you'll need software drivers. I've searched various forums and there's
no report of anyone successfully attaching the 575 through a USB
cable.

You'll soon start to understand why Virgin are giving these handsets
away for free!
