I've had the HTC Wizard/QTek9100 for a year now on a Voda contract, so it is
time to have a look around and see what's available. Sadly, what I'm looking
for doesn't seem to be produced yet, but I though I might ask in here. (you
never know)

The Qtek 9100 is fine, except:
1. QVGA screen is too small for browsing - Needs to be VGA or simply wider!
2. GPRS is slow, but I could JUST live with this
2. Voda contract seems very expensive for data.

When looking around last year, the only other contender to the 9100 that I
fancied was the XDA exec. Finally decided against it on grounds of size.
Now, a year on, it would be nice if there was an 'XDA Exec 2' coming along.
Same functions, same 640x480 screen, but a little more compact. I'm not
fussed about HSPDA if it has 3G. I would even sacrfice the hardware keyboard
if I could get a similar device to the Exec but a little more compact.

Am I stuck with getting an Exec look-alike (or a TyTn) on t-mobile with web
n' walk, or am I missing something?

Hi

Any of my customers who had the Exec have now opted for the Tytn
instead and are much happier with it - the Exec was just that bit too
large for them - also they were always damaging the screen (expensive
to repair) or the twist mechanism.

If you go from the Wizard to the Tytn, you should appreciate the
processor speed of the Tytn (400mhz istead of 195mhz).

There's a new o2 coming out before too long (o2 zinc), similar to tytn
but even faster processor similar to Exec

However, if it's reasonable data costs you're after, then T-Mobile is
the one to go for. I had a lot of hassle with their 3g/HSDPA at first,
but it all seems to be working well now (it is *much* faster than GPRS
- also attachments now download in secs rather than mins).

As for browsing, all I can suggest is to use an alternative browser
like opera or mini opera - still not ideal, but proably better than
Pocket Internet Explorer.

Thanks for the advice!

Whilst the screen on the XDA is is a nice size, it doesn't take up the whole
of the front of the phone, so I was hoping that there might be something a
bit more manageable coming along. It's almost as if development of this
particular product line has been abandoned.

I've never been happy with the sluggish response of the Wizard, so it's nice
to hear that if I go for the Tytn it will be an improvement. I just wish
that the screen was a bit bigger!

The XDA exec was very very very slow, i actually missed calls because it
took so long for the software to kick in, as well almost entirely
inpractical to take calls when the clamshell is open.

Complete waste...

I'm surprised that you found it slow. My Wizard is slow, and when I tried my
bosses XDA it seemed like greased lightning! I know what you mean by
answering calls though. I tried to take a call on it and it's a bit awkward!
