Sunil Sood - 08 Nov 2006 14:03 GMT NTL:Telewest announced today that it is to change its name to Virgin Media - as it reported its third quarter results. The company declared net losses for the period of £96.1 million - up from £52.1 million last time - but revenues increased by 140.6 million to £1.02 billion.
The results follow NTL's acquisition earlier this year of Telewest and Virgin Mobile.
NTL:Telewest said the name change will take place in the first quarter of next year to take advantage of the Virgin brand.
The company reported a 13 per cent growth over the previous quarter in the number of broadband subscribers to 265,000 and said telephony customers increased by 6,100, although due to churn issues there were also significant disconnections of broadband and telephony customers.
Until the re-brand, NTL:Telewest will continue to provide services under its existing brand name. Virgin Mobile will continue as part of the new Virgin Media group.
NTL:Telewest president and chief executive Steve Burch said: "Virgin Media will shake up the market by bringing the Virgin traditions of value for money, brilliant customer service and innovation to the world of entertainment and communications.
"While work remains to be done between now and the re-brand, our decision to announce its name and logo today is a reflection of my confidence that we're well on the way to creating an organisation that can live up to this vision by consistently putting the consumer first."
Gordon McCallum, chief executive officer of Virgin Management and an NTL board member, said: "Taking on the Virgin brand is about much more than a new name and logo above the door. NTL:Telewest's management team has consistently demonstrated that it understands this and the commitment that's needed to succeed. Much has already been achieved and we're confident that the company's on track to deliver the Virgin promise when we re-brand next year."

i) blaming all faults on faulty kit bequeathed to them ii) promising the earth as compensation for crap service today - the old 'jam tomorrow' routine iii) when i) has been replaced, blame all faults on new equipment settling in, and 'teething problems iv) lengthy, 40+ minute waits on an 0845 number to rectify aforementioned faults
Brilliant customer service ??? Where ? Innovation - erm, slap a Virgin logo on it, get someone else to pay for it, and erm, take most of the credit for it.

If the "Virgin traditions" you point out above are in any small measure imported into NTL, then I am sure many NTL customers will be happy with the improvement.

NTL have taken on over 1,000 new staff in Swansea to manage calls & are still taking on more.
Virgin Media will be a new start for NTL as Richard Branson will get a say in what goes on there, so the new Virgin Media will be much better than the current NTL.
P.S. If you ring 150 or 151 from an NTL landline, you get customer service for free.

But they are still trying to run before they can walk they talk of providing 50Mb Internet connections God in heaven I shall be pleased when they manage to provide me with the 4Mb which I am paying for and not getting many people in my area have the same problem he is paying for 10MB and only getting 5 . I prefer BY to ADFSL providers but it is time Telewest/Blueyonder/NTL/ Virgin or whatever else they decide to call themselves next week got their finger out and provided the service which customers are paying for .

I am quite happy with my 4 Mbit connection from telewest but maybe I also take the "up to" (wich is standing on the telewest site directly next to the offer)in consideration.
Bye Quincy

[quoted text clipped - 13 lines] >also take the "up to" (wich is standing on the telewest site directly >next to the offer)in consideration. Well now so this "up to" which you speak of means that a guy who is paying for a 10Mb connection in my area and many of us who are on 4Mb have to expect our speed to be cut by half EVERY SODDING NIGHT does it ? . And considering that a second level support supervisor last night told me after some checking that two out of the three UBR's in this area are grossly over subscribed and he could not offer any time scale when the problem will be fixed , I actually think you are totally wrong with your "UP TO" nonsense . We all know about " up to" god we have had it rammed down our throats often enough by support personnel but when you are getting download speeds of around 80 to 102 k/sec when even allowing for "Up TO'S a speed of 400k/sec should be obtained even support say there is something wrong .
Omiwahn - 15 Nov 2006 15:24 GMT thats true what your saying then something is wrong, should not be that much to be honest ;-) (normally get 80 - 250 something in downloading, depends logically on the other sider too)
I would change my provider if I am not happy with them

Basically, you always should have the options to change to BT ;-) and and even if you have a problem with your government you could move to a different country, to be honest if I am not happy I can keep complaining all day or change to a different one ;-)

Multiply that by every pack in the store and also by every store in the UK and Walmart directors will be getting a big Christmas bonus this year the robbing B/////////////////////S .
Omiwahn - 17 Nov 2006 14:31 GMT might be, but for instance if I have a car and am not happy with it, I would sell it and by myself another car, because if the car is always in the garage to get fixed it does not make sence to keep it or? why keeping on cable if u are so unhappy, but I got your point though

To be fair to ntl: I'm used to they're taking 25 minutes to answer the phone ... last time I rang it was under 30 seconds. I couldn't quite believe it.
Having said that, I only had to ring because they'd bogged up my bill. However, the operative was very helpful in explaing the problem & sorting it out.

The imposed "translucent" web proxying and interference with other services were the main reason they lost my business.

I'm on ADSL, faster than what BY/NTL can provide, and they're a cable company. Rock solid connection of 16MB.
You're on 4MB with BY/NTL and you're only gettin half that.
They're talkin of bringin out a 50MB connection. What utter nonsense, they need to learn to walk before they start runnin!

I see on tonight's news that NTL who I saw reported has been 96 million in the red last evening are now after buying ITV , they will be after the BBC next :)) . Regarding TW/NTL you will note that I never said that they are perfect but I do think they are just the best of a bad bunch of ISP's that we have in this country today .

You must be unlucky.
There are a lot of ISPs out there (particularly in the xDSL space - given freedom for less corporate entity participation) providing fantastically responsive and high throughput connections with good reliability and pricing.
I think routine sub 30ms pings and near constant throughput at a good price cannot be faulted... I would like to know what else you would like, want, expect - I think what you are actually after is a coffee machine... not an internet connection - wrong device / technology )only [light hearted] jesting)?
Best wishes,

As for the quality of their trolls, I'll leave that for others to make their own minds up.
