Shame it's closing, I really liked the service which keeps your account
active for 80p per month even if you never used your number
Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative that provides the same
service?

Any of the networks PAYG services do that, and for £0.00 per month
weather you use it or not.

None of the other PAYG services allow "Call redirection" as far as I know.
easyMobile was well was worth 75p a month to me for that.
Also, none of the other services allow automatic top ups from debit/credit
cards when the balance is about to run out as far as I know.
Virgin will allow payment in arrears by direct debit but then they don't
allow Call Re-direction.

Indeed. That's the reason I ported to EasyMobile in the first place --
somewhere to "park" a mobile number while I'm out of the country for a
few years, such that callers get diverted to somewhere useful. At the
moment, the somewhere useful is a UK landline number that terminates
into a VoIP system.
The explicit 75p montly charge was good, as it meant that they were
happy to have low volume users, so long as they paid it. All the other
operators make you jump through hoops (outgoing calls or top-ups every
n months) to keep the account active.
If anybody knows of any other mobile operator who will allow call
diverts, without a large monthly charge, I'd be very grateful to hear.
Cheers,
Paul.

You must be a bit thick! Why pay 80p a month when all other operators don't
charge. Virgin for example only requires one incoming or outgoing call
every 6 months no matter how much credit is on the phone.
I take it your post was a joke?

wasn't joking. maybe poorly informed. often a bit thick.
Cheers anyway

Easy was a penny per text between easy 'phones... that was our clincher when
we joined. Plus free 'phone each. Didn't even use up first £20... Must have
got pretty close though. I think it will work out at roughly a free Nokia
1101.
Any other providers offer a 1p per text deal?

VirginMobile were offering free texts between customers across the summer.

Only any good if you know the person concerned is on the same network. I
have absolutely no idea what networks most of my friends are on, they've
ported them so many times..! So have I come to that, my original Orange
number has been on just about everything over the last few years..!

I have a Virgin SIM in an old 6210 sitting in my car glovebox as an
emergency spare. It hasn't had a call made on it since March, but it was
still working ok when I checked it yesterday.

Tesco are good IMHO. 10p/min to your 3 favourite numbers.

Yes, they seem best for me also.
The Tesco value tariff matches EZ.
They are offering £5 of free calls if you keep the same number.
You can even change to the standard tariff for 40p in and out Europe calls,
then change back again to the value one.
For what I need, it seems way better than any other operator.
Shame there's no automatic top up, I found this one of the best things about
EZ.

I don't make enough calls to worry about it, I put £50 on when I switched
last December, I've still got about £35 left..!

what the rates are?

AFAIK Fresh do not allow roaming on PAYG.
Yet another reason why they won't have my money!

Sorry to reply to my post
The only alternative I can see is to take out something called 'no line
rental' and then you have to pay them a £100 deposit for roaming!
They can definitely sex and travel!
