Hi,

I'm trying to connect my laptop to the internet via bluetooth using a
Sony Ericsson M600i on Vodafone UK 3G. There is a 'conection wizard' as
part of the phone's bundled software, but while it lets me link up with
the phone using a USB cable with no problems, I can't seem to repeat
the process using my bluetooth dongle.

I can 'pair' the phone and the laptop, and can get the laptop to
recognise the phone's modem. However, when I try to establish a
connection to the network using either the wizard or the m-router
software, I keep getting an error message 680, which seems to mean that
there's no dial tone.

I'm puzzled why it should be trying to get a dial tone for a connection
that isn't dial up. I've also RTFM, as they say, to no avail. Can
anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong, here, or how I can maybe
hook up without using the wizard?

Thanks very much,

Richard

Depending on your bluetooth software: perform a service discovery and
when it discovers dial-up networking give it a double-click. This will
launch the usual windows dial-up box where you enter *99# as your dial
up number, username and password blank.

See what happens with that.

I had exactly this problem; laptop + USB cable + Nokia + Vodafone connected
to the internet whereas same config using an otherwise working bluetooth
configuration did not.

Finally gave up on creating a generic dialup connection and used Vodafone
ConnectMe proprietary software, which worked fine. It's a free download from
online.vodafone.co.uk but I couldn't figure out how to post an exact link to
it on their weird website.

You can get the Connect Me software by visiting www.vodafone.co.uk,
clicking 'Get More From Your Mobile' then 'Internet on the
move' then 'Internet access' and then 'Download free Vodafone
Connect Me software'.

This is the link:
