>From The Register... "Users of 3's just-announced mobile television
service will break TV licensing laws if they view the service on a

runs on its own batteries it does not need its own licence"
I'm scared, lets run and hide from the plug socket police. Someone
somewhere needs to get a grip. Unless someone is seriously breaking the
TV licencing laws, what is the problem!!! How the hell would TV
Licencing know that my phone is plugged into the mains or running off
it's battery!? My guess is they wouldn't! I have a tv licence, I have
a service from 3 which I pay for (or would do if I used their tv
service) what's the big deal!?

The main group targeted in this way by these jobsworths are students see
http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/information/students.jsp * (PS use 0800 551550
instead).
So if you watch on a laptop using a USB dongle you are OK.

Aren't I covered by my parents' licence while I'm away?
No. Unless your TV is powered by internal batteries, such as a
pocket-sized TV. If you think that this is the case, please call us on 0870
241 5973 to check that you are eligible for cover on your parents' licence.

The Labour Government are planning to create an IP Tsar who will create
new uniformed IP wardens. They will be patrolling all over the place to
ensure you are doing what SuperGran feels is right for you. If you are
caught watching TV on what they consider is an unlicensed device you
will get an on the spot fine. Like most fines these days it will be
halved if you pay it promptly.
