BlackBerry Service

Can anybody help?

I have an unlocked BlackBerry 8700C, given to me in the summer by my
American father-in-law - as a sealed package.  In short the sound quality of
the BlackBerry is substandard so I'm selling the device.

Now the chap buying the BlackBerry has tried to get it hooked up with
Vodafone's BlackBerry email service, but they tell him the device already
has an account.

That's got me.  New, sealed to me, I've never used it with a BlackBerry
email account.  Cingular don't have a record of it, BlackBerry refer me to
Cingular and I use Virgin Mobile myself, if they have a BlackBerry service
I've never used it.  Vodafone tell me that the device has a "business email
account" attached to it...

So is there an easy way to find out where this account is from and how to
remove it so that the BlackBerry can be used with the service?

Who does it already have an account with?

If it already has an account with vodafone then the chances
are that he's tried registering it already and messed it up
or it's failed for whatever reason (pc crash/browser crash)
any number of reasons.

Tell him to find out where the account is, if the account
is with vodafone, tell him to call them back, if he's using
it on a consumer account, he may need to ask for it to be
assigned and for an "expert" or someone from "tmti" to call
him back.  All vodafone need to do is delete the account
completely from their systems, and then he'll be able to
start again.

Make sure he's trying to register the account properly at
www.mobileemail.vodafone.net, if all of this fails, then
vodafone need to speak to RIM on his behalf and ask them
to remove all registration as it's obviously a mistake.

This may take a day or so if it needs to go that far.

I don't know.  That's just it, I've not set the device up for a wireless
account (that I'm aware of), merely synchronised the device with a notebook
computer and used it for calls and SMS.

Hmm.  I've tapped the device PIN into Cingular and Vodafone's service and
both report that there is no registered PIN.

Gotcha.  But we don't know where the account it... it's not in the two
likely suspects...

That may be the best bet...
