I applied for a new contract on Orange today, through -
www.onestoppohoneshop.com - only to be told that Orange required £150
deposit. This came as a suprise as I would consider myself generally credit
worthy, so I cancelled the order. I rang Orange to try and get them to
explain their resoning, but they would not tell me anything.
The only thing that I can think of is that I already have 2 contracts with
Orange, both currently on OVP Virgin: At the end of both my previous 12
months contracts, I have changed to this tarif to preserve my number, and
taken out new a new contract with a new free handset.
I have now cancelled the oldest of these contracts, that I havent used for
over a year, but before I try and apply for a new contract again, I was
wondering if anyone else has had any similar experiences? Should I dump
Orange and try someone else, or is it worth trying to take out a new
contract from somewhere else - ie the Orange Shop or CPW?
Thanks in advance,
Chris.

Did you have other Orange contracts prior to the two OVP Virgin
contracts?
I had similar problems and was told that it was because I had had
several contracts with orange(3 in total) in a short period of time.

Call the exec office, unless they have a good reason not to,
they usually wave the deposit

Thanks for your reply - but could you just clarify:
if i go to CPW tomorrow and take out a new Orange contract, if they ask for
a deposit: i ring the exec office there and then while the CPW staff bloke
waits, then the exec office sorts it all out and then i complete the deal
with no deposit (hopefully)?
