Well I've had my Nokia N73 from 3 for one month now and thought I'd just
post to tell you how I've found my first experience of the network.
Ordering the Mobile: Ordered over the phone after seeing the deals on the
three website, only called for clarification on the free MSN for Life, but
ended up ordering after they offered another £50 off if I ordered right now.
Mobile was delivered 2 days later.
Three's N73: I must say I always hate mobiles which have been raped by the
networks, vodafone are the worst, but I've been supprised by 3. Didn't need
to call up for any setting to be sent to me, just put sim in called them up
to be activated and away I went. Don't like that the phones locked to 3, but
I'm trying to reduce the number of contracts I have so maybe when the
conntracts up I'll worry about unlocking it. Apart from them putting links
to 3 Content as defaults (which can be changed quite easily) I can't find
anything they have locked or removed from the functionality of the N73. I've
had TomTom running on the mobile and lots of apps installed on the 2GB
memory card.
Coverage: Has been very good, I travel between Central Scotland and North of
England and I don't think I've seen the phone lose the 3G signal at all yet.
Customer Services: I've had to call them twice, first time was to sort out
MSN, I couldn't find it on the mobile, but they directed me to the website I
could download it from to my mobile and it was up and running within a few
minutes. Second time to find out why YahooGO wasn't working and the Indian
Call Centre sorted out the problem straight away and their english and
understanding of a broad scottish accent was expectional.
3 Contenet and My3: Good selection of free things to download like "I'm a
celebrity" and the movie trailers, but being able to check what my usage and
spending via my3 is brilliant and it seems to be very acurrate. I'm on the
DVTT 1400 with 300 mins, 1000 text, 50 MMS and 50 Video mins. Never used
video calling before so the 50 mins comes in handy for calling the kids and
saying hello.
3mail: I don't bother looking for my BT adaptor if I'm wanting to send a
file to the mobile, I just email it to my 3mail account as all received mail
is FREE, no matter what the size is. Only been using it for small files, but
its been handy when other people have wanted to send me stuff. If they would
just make it free to send emails and I'd use it all the time.
Email & Web: I've not taken any of the extra add-ons for email and web
surfing as I have broadband access at night when I'm away from home, so
everything can just wait, but if its a quick as the 3 free pages it would be
very good I think.
Overall I've been very happy with my fist month with 3 and will be
considering moving my wifes next contract from 02 if the good experience
I've had so far continues.

You will most likely find that they have disabled the ability to put the
phone into GSM only mode.

Where will I be able to check if they have or not?
Also has anyone updated the firmware on a N73 via the nokia website, is it
worth it?

V2.0628.0.0.1
10-07-2006

Just been looking at the Connections/Access points/Data bearer
I can change this from Packet data to High Speed (GSM) or Data Call.

It should be "Network Selection" and GSM only is disabled as well as ability
to manually change the network.

I have been with them for two weeks now after refusing for years to give in
to the insanely cheap packages.
Well after two vodafone bills of £275+ in a row, I crumbled.
I feel I have just been awoken to a brand new mobile era. I got the Sony
Erricson K800i which I love (Especcially since they gave me £90 cash to take
it!). I also love the instant access via planet 3 to all my usage data and
bills. Overall I am very impressed, and I have had ZERO problems except for
a little confusion on how to get my email working and a Dialtune delay. The
Mobile TV is a cool thing to have, and very cheap for what you get.
Converted :)
Gary.

I was a Three customer during most of 2004 and couldn't wait to leave
them. I don't know if the phones I had were terrible (various LGs) or
the network, but it was awful. Calls always going to voicemail,
cutting off, flipping between 3G and 2.5G etc etc.
However, after a year away and hearing that things had improved, and
seeing that their price plans can't be beaten - thought I'd try once
more on their 14-days money back promise -- and what a difference...
seamless 3G to 2G handover, rock-solid singal etc etc.
