I have been reading all about this software problems, but I have another
theory: the network providers that decided to take it away from their offer
are just fearing that the combination of WiFi and VoIP facilities dents
their business.

Any comments?

I still have to check their offers. However the real breakthrough of VoIP is
that once you have a phone that connects a hotspot, you can choose to route
your calls via a different platform, skipping the mobile network altogether
in favour of cheaper options (unless they make it just as competitive, that
is).
