Nokia PC Suite 6.82 not working with USB connection

Hi,

I recently installed the new PC Suite update and now the 'get
connected' wizard, hangs in the page which tells me to attach the phone
to the cable and the cable to the computer.

I am using Win XP Home SP2 and had a previous version of PC Suite prior
to this installation, ** which worked adequately **.

My phone is the Nokia 6230i.

Has anyone else had this problem and more importantly, managed to fix
it?

Just done the same using my 6230i but everything is working ok. I did
notice it had to go through installing all the drivers again before it
would connect.
Try completely removing it and doing a clean install

Yeah already tried that. I first tried the 'repair' option; didn't
work, then uninstalled and re-installed it; didn't work, then
uninstalled and re-installed the previous (wokring) version; didn't
work. Did the hokey-cokey and turned around; didn't work. etc

Serves me right for downloading a new version I guess. The older one
was flaky but worked enough, except for when I deleted all messages off
the phone via PC suite and it stopped my phone from making calls.

Hi mungflesh - did you ever resolve this problem? I have the same
problem and would like to find a solution.

(I had PC Suite 6.1 which worked, upgraded to 6.82 and it now won't
let me connect. I've been round the loop of uninstalling/reinstalling
aboyr 3 times now and I'm sick of it! I've tried Repair, loading
different drivers, etc. etc. to no avail. I have Windows XP SP2 and a
Nokia 6230 phone)

Thanks for any advice.

Oops, sorry, forgot to say its a DKU-2 cable and USB connection I'm
trying to get working (doh!)

I had similar probs as described. It would connect and then randomly
disconnect - or sometimes not at all. This was after I had installed
updates of PC Suite. Once I had removed them and installed the version
that comes on the CD with the phone, I have never had a problem since.
Although I'm aware that later updates provide additional features, you can
still get away with using the first version without losing functionality -
worth it for the sake of hassle free use. This works for me - hope it does
for you.

System restore back to 6.1 would seem to be the obvious solution.

Hi and thanks for the replies. The problem I have is that I've tried
uninstalling the later version (6.82) of PC Suite, and reinstalling
the CD version (6.1) and it still doesn't work. I've tried
uninstalling using the PC Suite's own uninstall, and using Windows
Remove programs. It now tells me it can't find a connection type and
exits (it's got worse!). Any advice welcome. Maybe someone knows of an
alternative product? ALl I wantt o be able to do is download photos
from the phone to a PC, and upload mp3s to listen to on the phone.
Apart from that I'm not too bothered (except maybe a backup/restore of
the phone contents could be useful).

Do you have a 'Genuine Nokia' cable?

See if http://www.ccleaner.com can help you clean out your registry.
It's free but watch out when you install so that you uncheck the Yahoo
toolbar thingy, unless you like it. Very cool app which has helped me
out many a time!
Hope this helps!

System restore to a week ago when it was all working.
Uninstall/reinstall is not the same as system restore.
