Cellular Phone Forum / Country Specific / UK Group / December 2006X Series on 3 or Blackberry
I am trying to decide between ourchasing a Blackberry phone on 02 or X Series phone on 3. My main aim being at least 400 X network minutes per month, access to my emails (send/recv 100 emails per week), little bit of surfing the net. and ability to make SIP and or Skype calls. Sid Just started (2 days) using the X-Series Silver service (£5pm) using my N73. Mobile Mail: I've tested sending email from works email and takes about 10-20 seconds to appear on my mobile. Sending emails from the N73 works fine as well apart from I can't work out how to save the sent message on my mobile? Skype works no probs, tried last night between by mobile-laptop, and vice-versa. Free MSN Messenger works fine, few probs logging in at times, but seems to be about 4-5pm time. Yahoo! GO (Yahoo Mail direct to your mobile, Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo Photos, sync Calendar & Contacts) Mobilcast; Can't seem to listen to podcasts from the Mobilcasst app in-built player, downloaded a few of the BBC Radio1 podcast and they play okay using the N73 Music player. I downloaded Opera Mini 3.0 and accessing the internet via that, seems a lot quicker. Never used a Blackberry, but what can it do that a mobile can't? It works on a Push email principal. Basically means it is instant viz GPRS. the Blackberry is also an organiser/ diary etc > Skype works no probs, tried last night between by mobile-laptop, and > vice-versa. I suppose you can call skypers using your free miunte allowance or is that on top of the free minute allowance? Dont know if it is possible to skype from a Blackberry Dont know if it can download SIP software to? eg FWD? Don't Blackberry plans usually have unlimited data to/from the Blackberry server? Polling a POP3 box via normal GPRS gets expensive quickly depending on your data plan.. Even at 15 minute intervals. My own personal best was 60MB in a month, or about £60 IIRC. On a Blackberry plan this would've been free.. or it would've been with my telco anyway. I've briefly seen an Orange one in action and it updated almost instantly. A copy of all my regular e-mails gets forwarded to my "special" e-mail address hosted by my telco and that gets forwarded to my Blackberry (subject to user defined rules) When someone sends me an email, I normally receive it within a few seconds of it being sent - although that of course depends on the speed of their outgoing server. In short, it is pretty close to instant. These are based on individual users, not corporations... Tmobile can knock that price down a bit, but you lose some of the specific blackberry functions, unless you hand them over an extra £10 of cash a month, making it about the same. The Blackberry server may poll the POP3 boxes every 15 minutes, but once the BB server has the mails they should arrive at the handset instantly.
