i have two nokia 3120 phones on orange pay as you go.  when you ring one
from the other phone it gives five rings before switching to answerphone.
the other one however only gives two rings to switch to answerphone.  two
rings is not enough for me especially if its left in the other room.   is
this a situation i can remedy from the phone end, something wrong with the
phone, or something orange need to sort out, please?

Why not just turn off the voicemail divert altogether with #21# [send]?
If I can't answer my phone, I would much rather my callers don't get
charged for the privalage of *not* talking to me.
They can always try again later.

Not always an option. The phone I use for work has to be on 24/7 due to
the nature of the job and sometimes the location I'm in has poor coverage.
In any case, business callers rarely worry about the cost of a call ;-)

Try
**61*'voicemailnumber'**'Seconds in multiples of 5, max 30'#.
E.g. to set to 30 secs,
**61*+44<xxxx>**30#

To get your Voicemail number:*#67#.

These commands are aimed at the infrastructure so will work with any
phone and with most service providers (but not all.)

Two things:

Try **61*07xxxxx instead of +44 - when operating in Europe with Orange
it will usually accept a UK dialling code without the 44

I think there should be only one asterisk between the number and the
time.

Woody thanks.  but still no joy.   I guess i will just have to pay orange
their 25 pence and get through to customer services.   although i have tried
that several times already, but keep getting some recorded message they are
too busy.
