Blackberry Internet Services O2

Well, I am weighing up getting a Blackberry as an individual user, I have my
eye on the 8707 which is a 3g version of the 8700. Only Vodaphone and O2
currently offer it.....

I am on O2 at the moment and my contract finishes in Jan. Now, as I
understand it the Blackberry Internet Services (BIS) offered via O2 are
classed as 'unlimited', but unlimited really means 75mb a month, now the
confusing bit is, when referring to BIS, they talk about unlimited email,
internet browsing and yahoo messenger.

Does that mean that any other kind of data transfer, such as using the
device as a modem (through gprs) for a laptop would not be covered?

For that priviledge it costs £38 a month, which include 250 minutes anytime
talk....

It seems hard to find the device that I want, on the network i want. T
Mobile with their webnwalk seems an excellent choice, but their phone is
only 2g, and they want an extra £10 on top of their webnwalk to use the push
service.

Does anyone have any recommendations for similar devices, that work as well
as Blackberry, but dont need to pay such high subscriptions, qwerty keyboard
desirable?

Don't bother with Blackberries and push-email. Get a real smartphone then
get a T-Mobile SIM with their Web'n Walk option. You'll get a much more
capable device and won't have to pay for that silly Blackberry option. Then
set up the email client to check for emails every xx minutes, that should
be more than enough (do you really need to be able to read your spam in
real time?). Among the devices you could consider, the Nokia E61 and E70
with qwerty keyboards, 3G and wifi would be very good contenders. There are
a number of Windows Mobile models that could suit you as well but i don't
know them well enough to recommend a particular model.

Be sure to buy your smartphone SIM-free (<http://www.expansys.com/> is a
good place to buy them) and not bundled with a contract to avoid buggy
custom firmwares, delayed firmware updates and all the other hassle you get
with operator-branded devices.

I have VTT1400 (£15pm) with X-Series Silver (£5pm) on 3 which has a 1GB
limit for internet use.

I'm connecting to all my pop3 email accounts (wanadoo, orange, O2, freeuk),
yahoo mail & yahoo messenger via YahooGO, MSN Messenger (both msn.jar app &
via OperaMini, msn are doing a beta version of messenger via the internet,
mobile.live.com) and MSN Mail via OperaMini.
I can set the email accounts to check for email every 30 minutes OR for 1
email account I can use MobileMail which will push all POP3 or IMAP4 mails
to my mobile in real time, noticed about a 10-20 second delay.
