If Virgin charged 5p for every text to every network, they would make a
fortune

That's a stupid thing to say.
A network that charges 10p each for them and if only sent half as many,
makes more money.

Alot of people would move to virgin just because of th cheap texts tho. So
they should make more money from calls and stuff. Also people will get more
adidcted to texts as they will be able to send twice as much as they used to
for the same price so the hope there would be that they send even more. But
at the end of the say if they did that it would built them up a much bigger
user base...

By that logic, O2 online PAYT with 300 inc Text a month should have the most
users.

As Genie / O2 online have discovered over the years, it doesn't matter how
many inc text you give your customers, it doesn't buy market share.

They need to choose their price point carefully.

6p would make sense, it's twice as much as the current 3p on-net and
half the price of most PAYG. People would be tempted to send two texts,
long messages, or picture messages where one 10p one would have done
before. They would also not be put off by having to top-up with a tenner
every month.

Alot of people at my college bug me for genie chips still. THE major problem
with o2 online is that they had this great brand of genie and then hid it
away from most people by calling it  o2 online an not selling it at their O2
stores/carphone warehouse. Alot of people dont know that the chips are still
being sold for £9.99 on the o2 website. Its most likely because o2 dont want
a large market share of pay and go customers who are most younger people who
most likely wont go onto contract for a long time.

I agree, they should of stayed with the Genie name, or as they felt it wasn't
a name that was growing in presence, tried again with another name.

Nope, it's more likely O2 management haven't a clue about marketing.

The only UK network that has actively taken a stance against PAYT is T Mobile,
the Krauts hate it, to them PAYT is only used by low ARPU, social lowlifes.

I'm trying to think of a group of people you didn't offend in either the
UK or Germany. :)

Still, at least nobody on umtm thinks PAYT is only used by social
lowlives.  Oh no...  ;-)

Many 121 PAYT users were offended by the way T Mobile stole their PAYT
standard tariff from them, so as to "encourage" them to migrate to contract.
