Is there a service designed for personal rather than business use which will
allow me to receive SMS messages via a PC - for example to a web access
inbox?

I know that there are business services offering virtual mobile numbers that
can receive SMS and forward to a web based account. These are pretty
expensive though and would probably only make sense for people who either
have plenty of spare cash or/and use the service frequently.

Maybe not quite the right solution, however, Orange Business Customers can
sign up for their PC Messaging Service.

This provides the ability to send/receive SMS via email, as they give you an
07XXX. number which points to your email address.

The service is free for receiving SMS.

To become an Orange Business customer is not too difficult.........

Vodafone do a text to email service as well, but you have to
be a vodafone customer for it to work.  They then give you 2
numbers to receive the reply on, either the number which goes
back to your mobile, or the number which goes to your email
inbox.

It's an addon for outlook I beleive, we use it at work and
it's quite good, the replys are very fast.
