I was initially looking at upgrading my current N73 at end of Jan 08 to the
new N95 8GB on 3UK, but after 3 downgrading the basestation at my work which
I use the 3G connection the most, I'm in two minds.

I have the N73 on a 3UK Contract with X-Series Silver add-on, which has been
very good reliable mobile and internet service for me and used to use the
X-Series on my contract continuously, but since the basestation downgrade at
the start of Dec 2007 I've been left with crappy 2G coverage on and off.

Last week I ditched the X-Series on my contract and started using the
Internet Add-on on a spare 3PAYG SIM I had with £25 credit still on it. Now
I've switch the PAYG SIM to the N73 and started using my 3Skypephone for
calls and text. The 3PAYG in the N73 will still giv me my mail via gmail
app, internet access and connection to LCG Slick for IM, but the Internet
Radio has been lost cos I can't get a decent connection to allow it to play
for any length of time.

I have the N800 Internet Tablet which I've been using more and more every
evening while away working cos I can always find a free wifi connection in
the hotel I'm staying at and been using that for calling home at night via
Skype. I've also been limited to downloading loads of music at night and
playing during the day rather than turning the Nokia Internet Radio Player
ON on the N73.

Thats a bit of the background, what i've been pondering over is...

Should I get a new 18month contract from 3UK just to get a shiny new N95 8GB
which I can't use to the fullness cos I've lost my 3G connection or stick
with the N73, N800 and 3Skypephone setup then look for a cheap N95 or E51 at
some point. I might even look again at FREE 12mths contracts with cashback
just so I at least get some call minutes and texts?

How is T-Mobiles 3G coverage there?

I am on a flext tarrif, with web'n'walk plus for an extra £12/month. I use it a
lot at work for streaming audio.

At the moment I have an N70, hoping to upgrade to an N95 in June when my
contract is up.

Old protocols never die.  They just get migrated over TCP/IP.

Sorry forgot to say I've been down the route of looking at alternative
networks for data, but where I work 3UK WAS the best signal. I've got a
Virgin SIM (T-Mobile connection) and my friend has a T-Mobile phone and we
both get crap connections. O2 is none existant and I've not found anyone
with an orange SIM to check.

I'm thinking of getting maybe an old N95-1 cheap rather than the N95 8GB and
upgrading to the latest firmware, I've heard good reports about the upgraded
v20 of the N95-1.
Also noticed the Nokia E51 which is £179 at OSPS, but will just take my time
and get the best deal I can. My upgrade with 3UK is end of Jan, but current
contract doesn't end till Mar 08.

If you're happy with what you've got then just stick with it, cancel your
current contract and take out a SIM only contract and get double the number
of minutes/texts than contract customers will have.

Planning to do that. I've heard some people have threatened to cancelled
their contracts with 3 and been offered the same plan, but at a crazy £5pm
tarrif if they use their existing mobile. Might hold out for that, but will
be looking at possibly a FREE 12mth contract.

Shame really as before this happened with the basestation I was def getting
the N95 8GB on upgrade. Might have been a good thing it happened now rather
than 1 month into another 18mth contract?
